Background of the Study
Environmental management policies have become a critical aspect of corporate social responsibility (CSR), influencing public perception and corporate reputation. Organizations that implement effective environmental policies not only comply with regulations but also enhance their brand image and stakeholder trust (Olawale & Hassan, 2024).
Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading cement manufacturer in Nigeria, operates in an industry with significant environmental impacts, including air pollution, waste management issues, and carbon emissions. As environmental concerns increase, Lafarge’s reputation is closely linked to its sustainability practices and corporate responsibility efforts (Eze & Adeola, 2023).
This study evaluates how environmental management policies influence corporate reputation in Lafarge Africa Plc, Kano State, assessing the effectiveness of the company's sustainability strategies.
Statement of the Problem
Despite regulatory frameworks guiding environmental compliance, many manufacturing firms, including Lafarge Africa, continue to face criticism over pollution, waste management, and sustainability challenges (Nwachukwu & Salisu, 2024). Failure to implement robust environmental policies can lead to reputational damage, regulatory penalties, and loss of public trust.
Although past research has explored environmental sustainability in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, limited studies focus on Lafarge Africa Plc and the direct relationship between its environmental policies and corporate reputation. This study aims to fill this research gap.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the environmental management policies of Lafarge Africa Plc.
2. To examine the impact of environmental policies on corporate reputation.
3. To identify challenges affecting the effective implementation of environmental policies.
Research Questions
1. What environmental management policies are implemented by Lafarge Africa Plc?
2. How do environmental policies influence corporate reputation?
3. What challenges hinder effective environmental policy implementation?
Research Hypotheses
1. Environmental management policies have a significant impact on corporate reputation.
2. Effective waste management and pollution control enhance public perception.
